Join us to learn the essentials of sewing. From hemming, to buttons to stitching. This 3 week workshop will provide you with the essential techniques you need to use at home.

Time: 7:30 – 9:00pm each week

Cost: $100 per person (for the 3 classes)

Location: Fink Karp Ivany (FKI) Campus – 1 Feodore St, Caulfield South

The workshop is designed for adults of all skill levels and provides participants with everything they need to learn how to sew.

WEEK 1: Introduction & Basic Hand-Sewing Techniques

  • Learn about basic sewing tools
  • Practice threading a needle, knotting thread
  • Learn running stitch and whipstitch
  • Create a little cushion using the stitches learned

 WEEK 2: Hemming and Buttons

  • Learn how to sew a blind hem – for hemming suit pants/ light-weight fabrics
  • Learn backstitch
  • Learn how to sew buttons onto fabric

 WEEK 3: Little Drawstring Bag

  • Learn to sew seams, turn fabric, and finish edges
  • Applying skills by practising and using the stitches learned in the first two weeks
